Cardinal Salutes Volunteers As We Gear Up for Light the Night

National Volunteer MonthApril is National Volunteer Appreciation Month. Cardinal Property Management, AAMC/ACMF, thanks every director, business partner, employee, and family member who works tirelessly serving their Boards, communities, companies, and personal causes.

Volunteers are the backbone of our country. They make the difference between success and failure, and sometimes even life or death.

We appreciate your hard work and dedication, and hope that you will continue your volunteer efforts through the countless opportunities the world lays before us. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.”

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is near and dear to the heart of Cardinal.  Several employees past and present have lost friends and family members due to blood cancers. Some staff members currently have family undergoing a variety of therapies to defeat their cancers.

Cardinal, with the support and participation of its clients and business partners, raises money all year for LLS through a series of events such as an annual Bunco party, a black and white event, and ultimately, the annual Light the Night Walk at Angels Stadium.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk funds treatments that are saving the lives of patients today. LLS is making cures happen by providing patient support services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments and the most promising cancer research anywhere. And it’s all happening now. Not someday, today.

Friends, families, and co-workers form fundraising teams, and millions of people help by donating. These efforts culminate in inspirational, memorable evening Walks in nearly two hundred communities each fall across North America.

Team Cardinal

2013 Cardinal Light the Night Team!

The funds raised by Light the Night participants will help save lives.

Light The Night Walk events are evenings filled with inspiration. During this leisurely walk, Champions For Cures carry illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Thousands of walkers— men, women, and children—form a community of caring, and bring light to the dark world of cancer.

Click here to register to walk with Cardinal Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. at Angels Stadium.

This year’s team co-captains are Noel Krips and Christine Santisteban.

National Expert Kelly Richardson Teaches Cardinal’s First Board Member Class of the Year

Cardinal Property Management, AAMC/ACMF, hosted attorney and national expert Kelly Richardson on February 19 as part of Cardinal’s commitment to board education. This first class of 2014 was titled “Advanced Board Meeting Issues and Strategies.” Kelly offered tips and techniques to run effective and efficient board meetings.

The evening seminar opened with Cardinal President Farrah Esquer introducing Kathy Gonzalez, executive director of the Orange County Regional Chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI), to the 34 attending board members. Kathy presented the mission and benefits of CAI, and how the institute helps boards around the world create and maintain successful common interest communities. CAI members have access to information about the trends in this rapidly changing industry with practical knowledge and insights from leaders in the field, best practices, research, and tools that can be used every day.

Kathy then presented attorney Kelly Richardson to the class. Kelly is widely recognized as an expert in common interest developments, boards of directors, and community managers. He is the author of HOA Homefront, a syndicated weekly column dedicated to reducing conflict in California communities. He has also been a member of CAI’s national board of trustees since 2011.

Kelly shared information from agendas to emergency decisions to disciplinary meetings, then held a question and answer session complete with handouts for members to take back to their boards.

Join us as we help you build your tool chest as a board member throughout the year. Classes are held at Cardinal headquarters at 1290 N. Hancock St., Suite 103, in Anaheim. To see the classes lined up for 2014 and register for courses, go to Cardinal Property Management’s Board Resources at www.cardinal-online.com and click on the Course Registration page or the Register Now link.

Two Cardinal Property Management Managers Receive Portfolio Manager of the Year Award

2014 CAI Awards

Congratulations to Cardinal Property Management’s Maryanne Hurley-Cicconi and Karen Holthe for receiving Portfolio Manager of the Year awards for outstanding service from the Community Associations Institute, Orange County Chapter. On February 7, during the annual awards dinner at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Karen and Maryanne were lauded as Portfolio Manager of the Year, Rookie, and Portfolio Manager of the Year, Veteran, respectively.

Maryanne has been with Cardinal for 5 years. In support of CAI, she served as the Co-Chair of the Programs Committee 2013, and was responsible for coordinating the monthly educational luncheons. Through Maryanne’s leadership, the luncheons were highly effective and provided sound educational value to the Chapter. In fact, due in part to Maryanne and her Committee’s efforts, the Orange County Chapter’s educational luncheons were often sold-out, received rave reviews, and were among the largest luncheon educational events in the state. As Co-Chair, Maryanne worked tirelessly and enthusiastically to ensure that the coordinators for every luncheon met their deadlines, provided Powerpoint presentations and outlines on time, and even filled in for coordinators on several occasions. Her dedication to the Programs Committee exemplifies the quality of service recognized by the Portfolio Manager of the Year Award.

As a portfolio manager, Maryanne efficiently manages a portfolio of seven accounts that includes a wide variety of communities. Maryanne works with the boards of planned unit developments, waterfront properties with boat docks, an age 55+ community, and condominiums. During 2013 she also successfully transitioned a new account to the company into her portfolio. In addition, Maryanne assisted her portfolio communities with a wide variety of enhancement projects including a new vehicle gate access system, a roofing project, and a recall election.

During 2013, Karen Holthe dedicated herself to the Education Committee. She audited every Community Leadership Training Program (CLTP) so she could serve as an instructor for each class, when needed. She was indeed needed, and Karen co-instructed the Finance class twice.

In her quest for excellence for the Education Committee, Karen suggested the Committee quantitatively determine the effectiveness of each class to expand the reach of the classes and educate more board members and managers. Her goal was to increase the attendance of board members and managers to exceed rather than merely meet the minimum number of attendees. Karen then gauged the attendance against her goal and monitored the progress of every Committee meeting. Following these meetings, she extended her goal even further. During this process to bolster attendance and extend the reach of the Education Committee, Karen relentlessly advertised the CLTP courses to association clients. Karen also parlayed her Education Committee experience to assist Cardinal Property Management, AAMC/ACMF, prepare for and run its Board Education classes.

Karen manages a portfolio of seven accounts that include PUDs, equestrian communities, and condominiums. She is also the Director of Property Management at Cardinal Property Management, AAMC/ACMF. She provides manager oversight, mentoring, training, and marketing.

In her property management role, she assisted one of her communities during a major “facelift” to the entrance of the association. This project encompassed hardscape, landscape, lighting, asphalt replacement, and signage.

She also managed a tree replacement program that exchanged dying eucalyptus trees with other viable trees and plants. She assisted with slurry projects in multiple communities, and she astutely managed a 30-year old property during a lighting project for all its monuments. Karen also managed a community project to replace all the irrigation controllers with Smart controllers.

It is with great pride that Cardinal congratulates Maryanne and Karen for these prestigious awards.

Cardinal Shares Itself with Those In Need

SOS CollageOnce again, Cardinal employees found it in their hearts to carry on their multi-year tradition of helping the Share Our Selves (SOS) Adopt A Family program of Orange County. Since its inception 44 years ago, SOS has helped families in need of extra support during the holidays. This wonderful holiday tradition supports many hard-working yet struggling Orange County families by providing gifts and food. This past holiday season, Cardinal business partners and generous friends joined us in providing our adopted family of five with food, shoes, clothing, and toys. We are grateful for every donation.
